In August 2025, my border collie Finley had his first stroke. Then a second. Then a third. And through every single one, I was right there, drawing on a decade of experience as a veterinary technician to manage his medications, monitor his condition, and make sure he was comfortable and loved at every stage of his recovery.
Finley is still with me. He's in physical therapy and hitting new milestones every session. Watching him fight, and watching what it takes to support that fight properly, made something clear: families going through this need someone who actually knows what they're doing, someone with real clinical skills who can manage the complicated stuff and be a calm, capable presence when things are hard.
That's why I started Charleston Palliative Pet Care. Finley taught me that the love is never the hard part. It's the care that requires training. And every pet going through what he's going through deserves someone in their corner who has both.
Out of that experience, I also founded The Canine Stroke Foundation, where I serve as President. It exists to support families navigating canine stroke recovery, providing resources, guidance, and community for people who are going through exactly what I went through with Finley.
Emergency and triage training included. I'm comfortable with medications, subcutaneous fluids, vitals monitoring, and managing the unpredictable.
